Nissan LEAF wins coveted Australian Good Design Award for design excellence
Nissan LEAF – the world’s best-selling electric vehicle - is the icon of Nissan Intelligent Mobility (NIM), and the company's vision for changing how cars are powered, driven and integrated into society.
Good Design Australia evaluated the new Nissan LEAF according to a strict set of design criteria which covered ‘good design’, ‘design innovation’ and ‘design impact’. In order to win a Good Design Award, Nissan LEAF had to demonstrate excellence in all areas and convince the Jury it was worthy of recognition.
Judges were impressed by Nissan’s electric vehicle approach, the advancements made between generations and the Nissan LEAF’s bi-directional charging capabilities.
“Nissan is a pioneer in the field of affordable electric mobility and has led the charge to jump-start consumer acceptance and take-up of EVs around the world,” said Good Design Australia judge Ged Bulmer.
“This second-generation LEAF arrives some seven years after the original and delivers meaningful improvements in both performance and range.
“The Nissan LEAF is also equipped with advanced bi-directional charging capability, which enables the process known as vehicle to grid.
“This means the Nissan LEAF can put electrical power back into a household or energy grid, as well as take power out. As such, the LEAF is equipped to play a significant role in the smart electricity grid of the future."
The annual awards celebrate the best new products and services on the Australian market, excellence in architectural design, engineering, fashion, digital and communication design, with Nissan LEAF entered into the product design category for automotive and transport.
The Nissan LEAF has been reinvented for its second generation and combines greater range with a dynamic new design and the latest Nissan Intelligent Mobility features including e-Pedal, Intelligent Emergency Braking with pedestrian protection, the 360 degree Intelligent Around-View™ Monitor with Moving Object Detection and more.
Nissan was delighted to accept this prestigious design award for new Nissan LEAF, a key part of its electrification-focused future mobility plan.

Available in a contemporary high-spec grade and with a battery range of 270km (WLTP) / 315km (NEDC)*, the new Nissan LEAF features Apple CarPlay™ and Android Auto™, plus e-pedal - which allows drivers to start, accelerate, decelerate, stop and hold the car by using the accelerator pedal alone without needing to use the brakes.
Awarded a five star safety rating by the Australian New Car Assessment Program (ANCAP), the new Nissan LEAF also has bi-directional charging capabilities. This technology, which Nissan is working with its partners to realise in Australia, allows owners to use the charge from their car to power their home or business, or return electricity to the grid.
